A Natural Boost for Body and Mind
Laughter truly is one of life’s best medicines. When we laugh, our brain releases a wave of endorphins, the same chemicals responsible for creating feelings of happiness and relief. These natural mood boosters help reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and even improve our immune system. In other words, a good laugh doesn’t just feel good — it’s physically good for us.
Beyond its physical effects, laughter plays a huge role in our mental and emotional health. It helps us put challenges in perspective, reminding us not to take life too seriously. Even in stressful moments, humor can provide a mental “reset,” allowing us to refocus with a lighter outlook. People who laugh often tend to have a more optimistic view of life and show greater resilience when facing difficulties.
Laughter also has the power to strengthen social bonds. Sharing a funny moment with others builds connection and trust — something we see every day at the ASCEND Day Program. When clients and staff laugh together, barriers fade away, and communication flows more easily. Humor helps people feel included, seen, and valued, which is essential to building strong friendships and a positive community.
The Power of Positivity
At the ASCEND Day Program, laughter often fills the air — and one of the biggest reasons for that is Cameron. Cameron is one of our talented clients with a dream: to one day become a stand-up comedian. Every day, he brings his sense of humor to our program, sharing clever one-liners, quick puns, and witty remarks that never fail to make staff and clients smile.
What’s amazing about Cameron is how naturally he uses humor to connect with others. Whether we’re working on digital media projects, cooking lessons, or volunteer activities, Cameron finds a way to lighten the mood. His energy reminds everyone that laughter is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to lift spirits, ease stress, and build friendships.
Cameron wanted to share a few of his favorite jokes with you — we think they’re too good not to pass along!
Why don’t scientists trust atoms? Because they make up everything.
Why do seagulls fly over the sea? If they flew over the bay, they would be bagels.
What do you call a line of men waiting to get haircuts? A barberqueue.
What do you call bears with no ears? B.
Cameron’s jokes show how humor can be a bridge between people — no matter who we are or what we’re working on. His dream of becoming a comedian is more than just a career goal; it’s a mission to bring smiles to others.
Here at ASCEND, we’re proud to support that dream. We believe in helping every client discover their unique strengths — whether that’s through technology, art, volunteering, or, in Cameron’s case, comedy.
