On Thursday August 6th 2026, ASCEND San Bernardino conducted a fun-filled field trip to the movie theater to watch our friendly neighborhood Spiderman in the new film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Participants and staff came together to enjoy a day of entertainment, laughter, and time spent with friends, excited to experience the latest installment in the Marvel Franchise. For many participants, the outing was an opportunity to step outside of their regular routine and enjoy a shared community experience meant to bring people together.

The clients had a strong positive reaction to the movie. When interviewed about their favorite parts of the movie, Client Jordan stated “I loved Tom Holland and Zendaya’s chemistry!” Client Paul also mentioned “my favorite part of the movie was the soundtrack.” Client Geovani was asked what his favorite part of the movie was, and replied “I like the new suit and tech!” The clients were able to purchase their favorite snacks and even took a few photos in front of the promotional display. During the photos, Client Cesar exclaimed “I’m Spiderman!”

Client Michael was courteous enough to do some box office research. As of August 16, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $794 million in the United States and Canada, and $1.236 billion in other territories, a worldwide total of $2.03 billion, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026, and the eighth-highest grossing film of all time. The film had the best first-day ticket pre-sales in five years since No Way Home in 2021, which had an estimated $78 million in pre-sales. Total pre-sales were $150 million, a record. It had the highest opening weekend gross of all time at $360 million, surpassing Endgame ($357.1 million).

The latest Spiderman movie takes place four years after the events of Spiderman: No Way Home. After Dr. Strange's spell makes the world forget that Peter Parker exists, he chooses to protect his girlfriend Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson and best friend Ned Leeds by not reintroducing himself to them. Over the next four years, Parker anonymously protects New York City as its celebrated hero Spider-Man, fighting street level and major crime including Mac Gargan and the Hand ninjas, earning the trust and respect of New York’s Police Department, and working together with Detective Jean DeWolff and The Punisher, Frank Castle, with DeWolff’s character representing Parker’s sole remaining anchor to conventional humanity and systemic accountability, and Castle’s character representing a dark mirror to Parker’s isolated vigilantism.

Parker stops Castle from causing collateral damage in pursuit of a tank that crashes into a Department of Damage Control prison. The driver is possessed by a telepath that body hops from person to person to help Gargan escape, but is unable to enter Parker's mind. Parker is informed that multiple DODC facilities have been attacked by someone searching for "V-Max." This incident forces DODC Director Bill Metzger reluctantly enlist Spiderman to help against the mysterious villain. (Spoilers ahead)

Following a stressful attempt to reconnect with MJ and Ned after they graduated MIT, Parker returns home in distress that triggers a dark mutation of Parker’s DNA, with ultra heightened aggressive senses, blackened eye and organic web shooters reminiscent of the Tobey Maguire incarnation. When the telepath attacks another DODC facility with a possessed Gargan, Parker loses control of his new abilities and brutally beats Gargan, injuring a police officer. After DeWolff tells him to regain control, Parker learns from Bruce Banner, who has an inhibitor device that uses siRNA to suppress his super-powered alter ego, the Hulk, and builds his own inhibitor.

Client Michael provided some meaningful behind-the-scenes context. The film possesses major MCU cameos tying street level narratives into wider franchise developments, with Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and later Savage Hulk, as well as the implementation of the Department of Damage Control.
